Using your card abroad

Your Safe2transact Visa card is accepted at millions of locations worldwide — anywhere that displays the Visa logo. Whether you are travelling within Europe or further afield, your card is designed to work seamlessly across borders.

Where can I use my card?
Both your physical and virtual Safe2transact Visa cards are accepted globally wherever Visa payments are processed. This includes:

  • Shops, restaurants, and hotels
  • Online merchants in any country
  • ATMs displaying the Visa or Plus logo
  • Payment terminals worldwide

Payments in foreign currencies
When you make a payment in a currency other than Euro, the transaction amount is converted to Euro at the rate applied by Visa on the day of the transaction. Currency conversion is handled automatically — you do not need to do anything to enable it.
To get the best rate, always choose to pay in the local currency of the country you are in when given the option at a card terminal. If the terminal offers to convert the amount to Euro for you (a service called Dynamic Currency Conversion, or DCC), it is generally advisable to decline and pay in the local currency instead, as DCC rates offered by merchants are typically less favourable.

Foreign transaction fees
Please refer to the current fee schedule in the Pricing section of the Safe2transact website for details on any applicable fees for transactions made in foreign currencies or outside the SEPA zone. Fees are shown in Euro and reflect the charges applied at the time of processing.

ATM withdrawals abroad
You can withdraw cash from any ATM that displays the Visa or Plus network logo. When withdrawing abroad:

  • Choose to receive the amount in the local currency to avoid unfavourable DCC conversion rates.
  • Check the fee schedule for applicable ATM withdrawal charges before travelling.
  • Be aware that some ATMs charge their own local operator fees in addition to any card fees — this is determined by the ATM operator, not by Safe2transact.

Tips for travelling with your Safe2transact card

  • Top up your card before you travel so your balance is ready to use.
  • Keep your virtual card details handy for online bookings and purchases made while travelling.
  • If your physical card is lost or stolen while you are abroad, freeze it immediately from the Cards section of the portal and contact our support team. See What to do if your card is lost or stolen for the full steps.
  • Notify yourself of your card balance through the portal so you are never caught short.

Card not working abroad?
If your card is unexpectedly declined while travelling, check the following:

  • Your card balance is sufficient to cover the transaction and any fees.
  • Your card is not frozen — check the Cards section of your dashboard.
  • The merchant accepts Visa cards (some smaller merchants in certain countries may only accept local payment methods).

If none of the above apply and your card continues to be declined, please contact our support team for assistance.
