How to export Google Authenticator to your new phone

Step 1: On your existing smartphone:

  • Open the Google Authenticator app.
  • Tap the three-dot menu icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
  • Select Transfer accounts.
  • Choose Export accounts and enter your PIN code when prompted.
  • Select the accounts you wish to transfer to your new phone, then tap Next.
  • A QR code will appear on your screen. Keep this screen open — you’ll need to scan this code from your new phone.

Note: Ensure that the Google Authenticator app is already installed and set up on your new smartphone before proceeding.

Step 2: On your new smartphone:

  • Open the Google Authenticator app.
  • Tap the three-dot menu icon in the top-right corner.
  • Select Transfer accounts.
  • Tap Import accounts.
  • Choose Scan QR codes.
  • Use your new phone’s camera to scan the QR code displayed on your old device.
  • Once the scan is complete, your Google Authenticator codes will appear on your new phone — your transfer is now complete and ready for use.

Security Note:

After successfully transferring your 2FA accounts:

  • Delete the displayed QR code or close the export screen on your old device immediately to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Verify that each account on your new phone generates valid 2FA codes before uninstalling Google Authenticator from your old device.
  • Keep your devices secure and never share QR codes or backup keys with anyone.
